The Beginning
A few months ago, I decided to take my software development journey seriously. Before then, I never really took a bold step to start this journey, even though I have been interested in it for a while. Everything changed back in March 2021.
I learned about the Zuri Training for beginners in the software development industry. As someone who once attempted to take the self-learning route, I thought it would be wise to try a structured training environment. I do not regret doing this.
Coming right after that, I enrolled for the HNG Internship. The internship officially kicked off today and I am so excited about the journey ahead.
My chosen stack on this journey is the MERN stack. I learned the basics of the constituents of this stack during the Zuri Training. Registering for backend development, I learned about MongoDB, Express, and Node.js. However, I took a personal dive into ReactJS as well, having already had a basic knowledge of HTML, CSS, and JavaScript.
My Goals for the Internship
My main goal for starting this internship is to solidify my place in the software development industry by working with teams. However, this comes bundled in a number of individual goals that I plan to have attained by the end of 8 weeks of the internship:
- Go from beginner to intermediate level in the languages I have chosen to focus on - HTML, CSS, and JavaScript.
- Get to intermediate level in at least one library or framework that pertains to my chosen languages, specifically ReactJS.
- Learn to work under pressure; I have heard stories about this internship and I am ready to experience it first hand.
- Learn to work effectively with a team as this is how it is a lot of times in the outside world.
- Network and make connections with like-minded people in this field.
- Ensure that I come out of this internship a better developer and a better person.
